The value of Poker Position
Texas Holdem is all about people and position. All knowledgeable Hold’em enthusiasts agree that seating in no limit Texas Holdem is critically significant. Playing your hole cards in last spot may be much more profitable than in starting poker position. The reason due to the fact that a whole lot more data is assembled right before acting.
i.e., I played in a $1-$2 no limit money match at a local poker room. I came in holding 2, 9 unsuited on the croupier button, so I could see some excitement. Flop came down A-A-4. A player in early spot laid a fifteen dollar wager. 2 players drop out and it was my turn to act. I should have folded, but his betting felt a bit odd. I labeled this guy as a weak-tight guy, and normally if he held the biggest hand he would just check, so I called.
The turn showed with a 7, making it A-A-4-7. My challenger placed a further wager of $20. I debated a bit, but took a chance to re-raise an additional $30thirty dollars over and above his $20. He dropped out and I won the cash.
Betting at last position gives you an insight into where you sit by watching how other players carry oneself and wager. On the flip side, gamblers at early position can use their poker spot to check-raise the late seated competitors and trap them later at the end. In Hold’em, both spots, late and early must be played cautiously.
