NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
