Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
