NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
