NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
