Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
