Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While participating in online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world could be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money rounds?
