Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve final game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player.
