Stu is thought to be by most to the finest NL Texas hold’em Poker gambler ever.
The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in ‘53 and started wagering poker prior to becomming a teenager.
The young gambler began betting gin and at the age of ten had won his very first gin tournament, while on vacation with his parents. By the time he turned fourteen the little poker maestro had become a professional and stopped going to school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the record books by succeeding 10,000 dollars in a gin rummy tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still remains in New York today.
The quick speaking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to sporting superstars like Joe Namath and Kobe Bryant. Stu Ungar had a genuine talent for playing poker but in spite of his achievements in Texas holdem poker, he preferred betting gin.
Stu once said that there may some day be a better No Limit Hold’em player than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a better gin player.
In ‘80 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the ideal Holdem Poker players in the entire world when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the very first time. Astonishingly it was the first time he had played in the tournament.
The right after year he dismissed any thoughts that it had been a fluke, by successfully protecting his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.
But this poker legend also struggled with substance abuse and a year right after winning his third title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to doctors, he had died from a heart attack which was caused by his lifestyle.
Stu had started with absolutely nothing but his skill and talent for the casino game which made this poker excellent a millionaire a lot of times over.
